ISO B Series vs JIS B Series
B sizes look similar across markets, but ISO B and Japanese JIS B are not the same.
| Size | mm | inches | Regions |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISO B5 | 176 × 250 mm | 6.93 × 9.84 in | Global, Europe, Asia |
| JIS B5 (Japanese B5) | 182 × 257 mm | 7.17 × 10.12 in | Japan |
| ISO B4 | 250 × 353 mm | 9.84 × 13.90 in | Global, Europe, Asia |
| JIS B4 | 257 × 364 mm | 10.12 × 14.33 in | Japan |
ISO B5 vs JIS B5
JIS B5 is larger than ISO B5, so notebook covers, inserts and printed layouts may not match.
Special But Widely Used Standards
Legal, F4, Oficio, ANSI and Arch sizes matter because they create regional and printing confusion.

Legal vs F4 vs Oficio
All three are long office sizes, but their width and height are different enough to break print settings.
ANSI and Arch sizes
ANSI and Arch sheets are North American engineering and architectural standards. They are much larger than everyday office paper, and once you move beyond ANSI B or Arch B, they are mainly used for CAD drawings, blueprints, plotter output, and large-format technical sets rather than normal office printing.
ISO C Series Envelopes
C sizes are designed around A-series paper, so they are easiest to understand by what they can hold.
| Size | mm | inches | Regions |
|---|---|---|---|
| C4 | 229 × 324 mm | 9.02 × 12.76 in | Global, Europe, Asia |
| C5 | 162 × 229 mm | 6.38 × 9.02 in | Global, Europe, Asia |

3. Long office paper sizes cause regional confusion.
- US Legal, F4 and Oficio are all “longer than A4”, but their widths and heights differ.
- Printer drivers often group them poorly.
- Match the exact paper size in your document and print settings.
