Special But Widely Used Standards

Legal, F4, Oficio, ANSI and Arch sizes matter because they create regional and printing confusion.

Legal vs F4 vs Oficio

All three are long office sizes, but their width and height are different enough to break print settings.

ANSI and Arch sizes

ANSI and Arch sheets are North American engineering and architectural standards. They are much larger than everyday office paper, and once you move beyond ANSI B or Arch B, they are mainly used for CAD drawings, blueprints, plotter output, and large-format technical sets rather than normal office printing.

ISO C Series Envelopes

C sizes are designed around A-series paper, so they are easiest to understand by what they can hold.

Guides & Tips

Use these notes to avoid the most common buying and printing errors.

  • 1. A4 and Letter are close, but not interchangeable in print workflows.
    • A4 is narrower and taller than US Letter.
    • A PDF designed for A4 can crop or scale oddly on a Letter printer.
    • Check page setup before printing across regions.
  • 2. B5 is one of the easiest paper labels to misunderstand.
    • ISO B5 is 176 × 250 mm.
    • JIS B5 is 182 × 257 mm.
    • For notebooks, binders and inserts, always confirm which B5 standard you need.
  • 3. Long office paper sizes cause regional confusion.
    • US Legal, F4 and Oficio are all “longer than A4”, but their widths and heights differ.
    • Printer drivers often group them poorly.
    • Match the exact paper size in your document and print settings.
