Ring Size Standards Overview
Common Systems
Different regions use different ring size standards. Conversions are approximate and can vary by manufacturer.
- US/CA/MX (United States, Canada, and Mexico): Numeric scale with half and quarter sizes (e.g., 6, 6.25). Also widely used in the Philippines, Colombia, Peru, and other parts of Latin America.
- UK/AU (United Kingdom and Australia): Alphabetic scale with half-steps (e.g., M, M½). Also used in New Zealand and South Africa.
- EU/FR/DE/ES/PT (Europe, France, Germany, Spain, and Portugal): Metric system based on inner circumference in mm (e.g., 52, 54). This ISO standard is also the primary scale for international brands in the Middle East, Thailand, and Nordic countries.
- IN/PK/BD (India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh): Numeric scale widely used in South Asia. Also common in traditional Gold Souks across the Middle East.
- Central Europe (Latin) / IT/CH: Used in Italy (IT), Switzerland (CH), Spain (ES local), Poland (PL), Netherlands (NL), Austria (AT), Czech Republic (CZ), Slovakia (SK), and southern South America like Argentina and Chile; size = inner circumference (mm) − 40 (e.g., 54 mm → Size 14).
- China (GB): In the current reference chart, Mainland China (GB) uses the same mathematical logic as Central Europe (Latin). It is shown separately to improve lookup and cross-reference for China-focused users.
- JP/SG/TW/ID (Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Indonesia): "International Size" numeric scale widely seen in Asian markets (e.g., 12, 14).
- HK/MY (Hong Kong and Malaysia): Local jeweler numeric scale; may include fractional/range steps (e.g., 15, 16). Widely used by traditional goldsmiths in Malaysia.
- RU/Nordic (Russia, Nordic countries, Central Asia): Size is strictly based on the inner diameter in mm. Widely used in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Iceland), Russia, and across Central Asian nations (e.g., Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan).
- BR (Brazil): Local numeric scale for the Brazilian market with its own rounding/labeling conventions, distinct from EU sizes (e.g., 14, 15).
- TR (Turkey local): Local offset/rounding conventions; may differ by chart (e.g., 14, 15). Often referred to as the Numara system in Turkey.
Why Results Can Differ
- Manufacturing tolerances and brand-specific charts.
- Ring width and profile (wide bands feel tighter).
- Finger changes with temperature, time of day, and hydration.
- Rounding between systems and half/quarter sizes.
Measurement Tips
- Measure at the end of the day when fingers are warm.
- Calibrate your screen before measuring for best accuracy.
- If between sizes, consider comfort-fit and band width.
- When possible, confirm with a jeweler or a physical sizer.
